And Yoga Studios first began late in 2014 as an independent, fair-trade handmade retail and gift shop aptly named Locale - A Village Shop. Locale, meaning ‘A Place Where A Story Begins.’ Soon after, our cozy yoga studio was also started in the backroom to honor one of the partners’ personal practice and commitment to the values of yoga in everyday life — hence our roots, “Locale Village Shop and Yoga.” No longer a gift shop, but still inspires magic!

who are we?

Before we tell you who we are—let us tell you who we aren’t.

We aren’t a studio on a mission to bring the community together or make the neighborhood better. (Bed-Stuy was already great before we got here!)  

We aren’t here to be magical healers or chakra shamans. (Because that’s way above our power and our pay grade.)

We aren’t here to be Bed-Stuy culture vultures or yoga purists. (That wouldn’t be good karma!)

We are simply here to give you a little spark in your day and provide inspiration to your everyday journey.  

At AND YOGA, we believe a good yoga and wellness practice is uplifting, energizing, inspiring, and can generate positive benefits, resulting in a healthy mind, that will radiate throughout your body and your life. We know that when you are aware of your inner body, you can take on the world with more energy, vitality, and success.

We take pride in creating a professional, warm, inviting, and open space where everyone can thrive. You will feel the difference as soon as you walk into AND YOGA—from our teachers, our studio spaces, our classes, our clients, and our vibe.

Our clients include everyone from the young to the young at heart, from New York newcomers to longtime Bed-Stuy residents. Our rich community creates a warm environment that is colorful, soulful, playful, authentic, and extends far beyond our studio doors.

why the name and yoga?

Yoga goes with anything. Whatever you love in life, whatever you're passionate about, whatever is important to you, you can always include yoga with it:  community and yoga, work and yoga, family and yoga, (blank) and yoga . . . you name it, yoga can always fit in. 

More than a lifestyle message, the majority of our members work and play in creative industries like fashion, film, advertising, music and art, among others represented in various fields. Despite our diversity we all have one thing in common, life!  It's how we live that life which makes us all special, what we do away from the studio and yoga. There's so many things that we're passionate about and yet yoga is right at the center, right at the heart. 

what is A Boutique STUDIO?

A semi-private yoga, wellness and spiritual center that offers specialized classes in meditation, breathing and yoga.  We have smaller class sizes offering more adjustments and individualized attention. There are no walk-ins, contracts, or class packs. 

All class fees are membership based, where you schedule classes on a weekly basis of your choice so that you may dedicate and commit time to your health and wellness in the way that works best for you. 

Being one of the first full service yoga studios and the first aerial yoga studio in Bedstuy, new yogis and seasoned practitioners alike find comfort and space here to excel their practice.  

The vision behind the boutique created in the historic community of Bedstuy Brooklyn is an ode to the artistic and cultural qualities of the neighborhood. Unlike other studios which often treat their communities like commodities, we aim to build something that could honor the existing community while offering something the changing neighborhood will appreciate. All the while bringing the diverse cultures, artistry, and soul which unites us to a common bond.
